What Is Yoga, Really?
The more we practice yoga, the harder it becomes to define.
Yoga is an ancient discipline originating in India, whose purpose is to bring harmony between body and mind.
It invites us to know ourselves more deeply and reconnect with who we truly are: our body, our mind, and our heart.
More than a physical practice, yoga is a way of life.
Derived from the Sanskrit word « Yuj », meaning "union," yoga seeks to connect all dimensions of our being —the body, the mind, the heart, and the soul.
It is a path toward inner balance, a state that could simply be called: the state of yoga..
Rooted in Indian tradition, yoga draws inspiration from various philosophies and spiritual teachings.
However, yoga is not a religion.
It can support anyone on their personal journey, regardless of their beliefs.
It invites us to reconnect with ourselves, our feelings, our values, our beliefs —or simply with the present moment.
Each person is free to approach yoga with the intention that resonates most deeply with them.
✨ A Practice That Goes Beyond the Physical
In yoga classes, the practice often takes place on a mat through postures (asanas), des breathing techniques (pranayama) and meditative practices (dharana, dhyana).
But classes are only the beginning.
Yoga is far more expansive than what happens on the mat.
It encompasses:
- Movement and postures (asanas)
- Conscious breathing (pranayama)
- A way of living in relationship with ourselves and others (yamas & niyamas)
- The cultivation of awareness and mastery of the senses and mind
- Meditation
Yoga is an invitation to live with greater awareness.
To grow, to learn, and to observe ourselves.
To give, without always expecting something in return.
Yoga does not end when we step off the mat. It is present in our daily lives, in our choices, our relationships, and the way we move through the world.
Little by little, it becomes a way of being.
A sense of unity with ourselves—and with everything around us.
A Practice Accessible to Everyone
Yoga is universal.
It welcomes people of all ages, genders, physical abilities, cultures, and beliefs.
Children, athletes, pregnant women, people living with disabilities, flexible or not—everyone can find their place within the practice.
There are many different styles of yoga, each with its own characteristics and intentions:
Hatha, Vinyasa, Ashtanga, Yin, Nidra, Kundalini…
Each practice offers its own rhythm, philosophy, and approach, allowing everyone to find the path that feels right for them.
Yoga & Me
I discovered yoga at a pivotal moment in my life.
A rich, open, and deeply transformative practice, it has become an essential part of my everyday life. Yoga helped me break free from negative thought patterns.
It taught me discipline and well-being, but above all, it taught me how to know myself, understand myself, and accept myself.
Through yoga, I discovered a gentler and more mindful way to strengthen my body while also caring for it.
Today, my practice helps me regulate my emotions and bring clarity to my thoughts.
Reconnecting with the body, with ourselves, with our emotions, and with the world around us—that is what yoga has given me.
And it is what I hope to share with you through my classes.
